We have been in Melbourne now for about 2.5 days and it is such a cool city! Kevin studied abroad here 10 years ago and he has been so happy to be back. We are staying at the Sheraton Melbourne which is in a great location in the CBD. They also upgraded our room and gave us some lovely desserts upon arrival in our room. The first night we went to a really really popular restaurant called Chin Chin. It was recommended by a friend of Kevin’s who lived here recently got a few months . We went Monday night at 8:30 and we still had to wait for a table. We sat at the bar right where they cook so it was really fun. The restaurant is Asian Fusion and we had a delicious meal and were so full.
During our first full day we walked from the hotel to an area called Fitzroy . We first walked through Fitzroy gardens which is a small park with some cool bricks and a dolphin water fountain. After walking through the park we went to a neighborhood called Fitzroy. This was a cool hipster neighborhood with lots of shops, bars, restaurants and coffee shops! In Melbourne they really love coffee.Kevin used to live in this area and we found his old apartment! After that we walked to Little Italy and down a famous street called Lygon Street. This has many Italian restaurants. We ate at one called Donnini’s and it was so delicious! We had grilled calamari and homemade pasta. After that we came back and relaxed at the hotel and then headed out to dinner.
Down the street from our hotel is a small sushi place that has the conveyor belt where you pick your sushi up! It also had iPads for you to order from.and then the chefs slide it down to your seat!
Yesterday we walked all around Melbourne’s hidden laneways. Melbourne has all of these little or not so little side streets, some with lots of cafes and restaurants and some have lots of graffiti art! I googled a bunch and made a small itinerary so that Kevin and I could walk starting from our hotel. We ended our little tour with fish and chips !Then we had tickets to see the Lion King at the world’s largest IMAx. It was great. Then we had dinner at a trendy Asian restaurant called Rice, Paper, Scissors! Another great meal!
The artwork and graffiti is amazing! Philly Cheesesteak? Did you try it?-amazing they have that halfway around the world. Must have brought back a lot of memories for Kevin to see his old hangouts from college! Glad you’re enjoying the cuisine!
