Beautiful Brisbane

We have been in Brisbane for the last few days and it has been absolutely beautiful here! This is Australian winter and it has been sunny with a high of 72 and low humidity! We are staying at the W Brisbane and it is a really cool hotel! It’s only about a year old and in a great location. It’s a very modern building and hotel room. We are a few minutes walk to the CBD or central business district and a 10ish minute walk to this area along the water called Southbank Parklands.

When we landed, our room wasn’t ready so we walked towards this area called the Queen Street Mall. It is not an indoor mall but rather a large pedestrian area where cars can’t come through, but lots of shops and restaurants! Kevin and I got lunch and walked around some more. After checking into the hotel and our room, we headed out to dinner along the Southbank. We have to cross a bridge and then we walked about 15 minutes along the water . It was absolutely beautiful! We ate dinner at a yummy Italian restaurant called Popolo and we sat facing the river outside. They even brought us champagne since it is our honeymoon.

The next day, we went to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. This was an absolute highlight and an awesome experience! This place has many koalas and you can even take a picture and pet them! They also have many native animals like dingoes, Tasmanian devil’s, a platypus, reptiles, and kangaroos! One of the coolest things about this place, besides being able to see so many Koalas, is they have a large Kangaroo area where you can even buy food to feed them. You are able to walk into this fenced yard area and go up to Kangaroos, pet them, take pictures with them and feed them! Both the koalas and kangaroos had really soft fur. We had so much fun.

Today Kevin and I went to walk around the Southbank Parklands during the day light hours and it was so cool. In the middle of this area along the river, there is a man made beach and swimming pool that looks right onto the river. There’s also a community garden where you can even pick plants and fruits if you would like. This area also has lots of cafes and restaurants. We walked from one bridge to another called the Goodwill bridge and there was a little cafe and a place to sit on the bridge and enjoy come coffee. Now we are headed to the airport and on our way to Port Douglas!
